Shiozawa weaving, a tradition spanning over a thousand years.
Techniques passed down through generations,
a space filled with warmth and nostalgia,
where you can step away from the noise and find peace of mind.
Shiozawa Weaving & Experiences Welcome to Ori no To
Shiozawa, located in Minamiuonuma, Niigata,
once flourished as a post town along the historic Mikuni Highway.
Ori no To stands at the foot of Mt. Makihata, believed to be home to the goddess of weaving.
Shiozawa weaving is crafted over time using the natural blessings of snow, water, and plants,
with techniques passed down through generations.
Recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and a traditional craft,
it is valued both in Japan and worldwide.
Following the closure of the Shiozawa Tsumugi Memorial Museum in January 2026,
Ori no To continues its legacy from April 2026.
We hope visitors will find warmth, nostalgia, and a moment of peace through these textiles.

About Shiozawa Weaving
At the foot of Mt. Makihata, in the Okuechigo region where the clear Uono River flows, lies Shiozawa—once a thriving post town along the Mikuni Highway.
Here, a traditional textile craft has been passed down for over a thousand years, and is still carefully created by hand, just as it was in the past.
With each thread, artisans devote their sincerity and skill.
This dedication has led to its recognition as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and a traditional craft of Japan, now appreciated around the world.
More than a product, Shiozawa textiles represent a living tradition.
Those who use them also become part of its story, carrying it into the future.
We invite you to experience the warmth of true craftsmanship.
